Barbados is the classic Caribbean destination ever popular with British tourists due to the historical ties. The British influence is strong, but Barbados has its own unique vibe. The best of the beaches can be found on the west of the island where the majority of the hotels are situated. The beaches are famed for there light sand beautiful waters, picturesque palm trees and fascinating coral reefs. The diving and sonrking is spectacular, with the turtles and fish making perfect swimming companions, and the watersports are well organised. On the east of the island more active holidaymakers can find some of the best surfing and watersports conditions in the world. This well developed island has many things to see inland, cities like Bridgetown offer some fantastic shopping opportunities, with good department stores as well as great local markets. The atmosphere on the island is very laid back but in a tasteful way, restaurants can be quite formal in the evenings but not oppressive, the friendly nature of the islanders makes for a pleasant time. The nightlife is based around the famous St Lawrence area, where a lively atmosphere makes for a great night out.
